Uber begins rolling out INSHUR driver insurance partnership

Car-share app Uber is beginning to roll out its existing driver insurance partnership with INSHUR to other US states, beginning with Arizona

Uber is rolling out its insurance offering for on-demand livery drivers for the first time, following the success of the programme in New York.

The ride-sharing company is working with on-demand insurance platform INSHUR to give on-demand livery and delivery drivers access to competitive insurance coverage, flexible pricing, and an improved claims experience.

The two companies have been working together since 2018 but, until now, this insurance offering had only been available in New York. The Big Apple is reportedly the largest market anywhere in the world for Uber, with reported driver numbers in excess of 200,000.

The strategic partnership will now be expanded to Arizona – where captive Uber geographies like Phoenix, Tucson and Mesa have a combined population of 2.6m – ahead of a broader rollout to other US states in the near future.

The expansion is supported in part by INSHUR’s recent acquisition of American Business Insurance Services in April. ABI’s existing footprint and capabilities allow INSHUR to scale its insurance products for the on-demand economy, the company says.

Uber INSHUR tie-up gives drivers ‘straightforward’ insurance

INSHUR’s unique processing of proprietary data and use of embedded technology in underwriting means better performance for capacity partners as well as competitive and comprehensive on-demand insurance policies to match driver lifestyles and driving habits.

Commenting about the latest step in the two companies’ partnership, Dan Bratshpis, Founder and CEO at INSHUR, says: “2023 has already been a big year for INSHUR and we are hitting another milestone by launching our products in Arizona, which has a community of on-demand livery drivers who need the best pricing and experience to match their lifestyles.

“Uber is the best partner to take this journey with, being completely aligned with our mission to make drivers’ experiences with insurance easier, fairer and more accessible.”

Andy Parr, Head of North America and Corporate Insurance at Uber, adds: “We want drivers to have access to products that support their livelihoods. Our strategic partnership with INSHUR will help us do that by delivering a straightforward process for professional livery drivers to access insurance.”
