MGA Ripe has appointed David Rowntree as its new chief underwriting officer, marking a significant addition to the UK digital insurtech's leadership team. The appointment follows the recent transition of leadership from Paul Williams to Alan Thomas as chief executive in September 2024.
In his new position, David brings over two decades of insurance industry expertise and will be responsible for developing underwriting and pricing strategies across the MGA's propositions. He will also spearhead the development of relationships with insurance partners across new markets and product areas.
David joins Ripe from Wakam, where he served as the UK and European head of property and SME. His impressive career history includes positions as EMEA vice-president for new products and innovation at Swiss Re and head of underwriting for private clients at RSA, demonstrating a strong track record in insurance innovation and leadership.
The appointment comes at a strategic time for Ripe as the company scales its operations and brings in new capacity. Chief Executive Alan Thomas praised David's collaborative working style and results-driven approach, noting these qualities align perfectly with Ripe's culture. Former Chief Executive Paul Williams emphasised that underwriting remains fundamental to Ripe's success, expressing confidence in David's ability to lead this crucial aspect of the business.
Ripe's appointment of David reflects the organisation's commitment to strengthening its underwriting capabilities as it pursues an ambitious growth strategy encompassing new product development, acquisitions and team expansion.
