One Inc and Brethren Mutual Partner on Digital Claims
Brethren Mutual implements new payment system, expanding digital payment options for over 250 agencies

One Inc., a payments technology provider that processes billions in insurance premiums and claims annually, has deployed its ClaimsPay system at Brethren Mutual Insurance Company.

The platform enables insurance companies to distribute claim payments through digital channels including bank transfers and digital wallets, representing a significant shift in the company's payment infrastructure.

Brethren Mutual Insurance Company, a Maryland-based property and casualty insurer founded in 1897, will use the system to facilitate payments across its network of 250 independent insurance agencies.

The company provides commercial, farm and personal insurance products across Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Delaware and the District of Columbia, serving businesses and individuals throughout these regions.

The ClaimsPay implementation includes integration with Hi Marley, a communications platform that enables text message interactions between insurers and claimants throughout the claims process.

The system allows policyholders to receive claim payments through multiple channels including Automated Clearing House (ACH) transfers - a network for processing electronic payments between banks - as well as consumer payment platforms Venmo and PayPal.

Claims Modernisation and Operations

The deployment aims to reduce reliance on paper cheques, which require manual processing and postal delivery.

The implementation forms part of Brethren Mutual's wider technology transformation programme, focusing on modernising core payment processes and customer interactions.

George Dioguardo, Vice President of Claims at Brethren Mutual, says: “We chose One Inc because we were looking for an insurance-focused payment partner with a proven track record in modernising the payee experience and providing options beyond payment by check.

“Implementing ClaimsPay has not only allowed us to deliver on a key policyholder demand of fast and easy digital payments, but it has also enabled us to streamline internal processes, freeing up our team to focus on delivering better service.”

"Our digital transformation was driven by our commitment to keeping pace with industry standards and delivering a seamless claims experience"

Technology Partnership

One Inc's platform processes billions of dollars in premium and claim payments annually across the insurance sector. The company specialises in payment technology for insurers, offering services including premium collection and claim disbursement through a unified payment network.

The platform provides expanded payment options, multi-channel digital communications and digital claim payments for complex insurance use cases.

For Brethren Mutual, which partners with independent insurance agencies across five states, the implementation represents a strategic move to enhance its digital capabilities.

The integration with Hi Marley enables communication with claimants throughout the claims process, providing a unified approach to claims management and payment disbursement.

Tammy Aaron, Chief Financial Officer at Brethren Mutual, explains: “Our digital transformation was driven by our commitment to keeping pace with industry standards and delivering a seamless claims experience.

“Our priority is to deliver innovative solutions that meet our policyholders' needs and expectations and our decision to partner with One Inc offered us the ideal combination of digital convenience and operational efficiency.”

Ian Drysdale, Chief Executive Officer at One Inc., says: “The implementation of ClaimsPay will enhance Brethren Mutual's competitiveness by leveraging a platform specifically tailored to the insurance sector.

“As a carrier expands its policy offerings and prioritises the efficiency of its claims workflows, it can gain advantages by partnering with a technology provider with trusted expertise in claims processing across various insurance product lines.”
