Marsh Launches Nimbus for Data Centre Construction Cover

Leading risk advisor and insurance broker Marsh has unveiled Nimbus, a comprehensive insurance facility designed to cover large-scale data centre construction projects across the UK and Europe.
Meeting Rising Demand
The launch of Nimbus comes in response to a significant increase in data centre construction projects throughout the region. Technology companies are racing to build new facilities to meet the growing demand for data storage and processing power.
Nimbus is backed by a panel of insurers from Lloyd's and company markets in London and Europe. The facility combines traditional construction all-risks coverage with property damage, delay in start-up, and business interruption protection. It offers up to €1bn (US$1.16bn) in construction all-risks coverage, plus an additional €350m (US$404m) for delay in start-up cover.
Streamlined Access to Specialist Coverage
Through Nimbus, Marsh clients can access specialised coverage from A-rated carriers with favourable terms and conditions. This streamlined approach allows clients to protect their critical assets more efficiently and with greater confidence.
Kelly Looney, UK CEO of Construction, Infrastructure & Surety at Marsh Specialty, explains: "Data centres are rapidly becoming the fourth utility and serve as the engine rooms of the global economy. Given their crucial role in telecommunications, computer systems, and data storage, it's essential that their construction is completed on time and within budget.
"Marsh is committed to helping the technology sector meet the growing demand for data centre infrastructure. Nimbus provides clients with project-specific coverage through a streamlined process that speeds up data centre construction projects and ensures a smooth transition to operational readiness."
Expanding Data Centre Services
This announcement follows Marsh's recent launch of its Data Centre Insurance and Risk Management Services, which addresses the unique challenges facing data centre operators and related sectors. The service provides comprehensive risk management and insurance solutions for global clients throughout the entire lifecycle of data centre operations.
Marsh's dedicated team of specialists supports clients from initial project development and financing through to construction and ongoing operational activities. This reflects the growing recognition of data centres as critical national infrastructure.
Industry Mega Trends
Data centres have become highly sought-after assets for investors, operators, and builders—a trend that's expected to continue shaping the market and underlying technologies for years to come.
According to Marsh, several key trends are driving the data centre industry:
Market Growth: The exponential increase in data generation is creating corresponding demand for more high-capacity data centres.
Sustainability: As net-zero goals become increasingly challenging and expensive to achieve, data centres will play an ever more important role in meeting these targets.
Supply Chain Disruption: Construction industry issues, extended project timelines, logistics delays, and power distribution constraints are creating barriers to accessing key components for data centre projects.
Rise of Artificial Intelligence: AI initiatives and investment-driven development are creating demand for scalable infrastructure, including data centres, to support continued growth and innovation.
