INSHUR Launches On-Demand Insurance for Uber Eats Couriers

INSHUR, a digital insurance provider specialising in on-demand economy coverage, has launched a new insurance product for Uber Eats two-wheel couriers in the Netherlands.
The product addresses a coverage gap in the insurance market, providing third-party liability protection for couriers delivering food through the Uber Eats platform.
This type of insurance covers claims for material damage or bodily injury caused while working, protection not included in standard personal vehicle insurance policies.
The launch represents an extension of the partnership between INSHUR and Uber, which began in 2020 with insurance policies for Uber drivers in the Netherlands.
“At Uber, we are committed to supporting the couriers who keep our platform moving. This partnership with INSHUR provides a flexible insurance solution that adapts to their needs"
Flexible coverage model
The insurance operates on an on-demand model, meaning couriers are covered only during active delivery periods. This approach aligns coverage with working hours and delivery schedules, reducing unnecessary costs during inactive periods.
Traditional insurance models require fixed-term policies regardless of usage, which creates inefficiencies for gig economy workers with variable working patterns.
“We understand the unique challenges faced by on-demand economy participants,” says David Daiches, COO and Co-Founder of INSHUR.
“Traditional insurance products often fall short when it comes to covering the specific needs required for the market. This product offers peace of mind and financial security to those powering the growing delivery sector in the Netherlands.”
Market growth potential
The introduction comes as the Netherlands experiences significant growth in food and grocery delivery services.
The grocery delivery market in the country is forecast to see revenue growth of 11.5% in 2026, according to the companies.
Meal delivery services are expected to reach 11 million users by 2029, equivalent to 62% of the current Dutch population of 17.88 million.
This growth trajectory suggests increasing demand for delivery services and, consequently, for appropriate insurance products.
Hendrik Todte, Head of Insurance EMEA at Uber, explains the company's perspective: “At Uber, we are committed to supporting the couriers who keep our platform moving. This partnership with INSHUR provides a flexible insurance solution that adapts to their needs, ensuring they can work with confidence and security.”
