MMA Expands Montana Footprint with Seitz Acquisition
Marsh McLennan Agency (MMA) has announced the acquisition of Seitz Insurance Agency, a move that significantly bolsters its presence in the eastern Montana insurance market.
While financial details of the transaction remain undisclosed, the deal marks a strategic expansion for MMA – a business of Marsh – as it absorbs one of the region’s long-standing independent agencies.
Seitz Insurance, established in 1961 and headquartered in Montana, US, has built a reputation for providing tailored commercial and personal line insurance solutions. The agency brings a deep well of expertise in sectors critical to the local economy, specifically agriculture, crop and energy industries.
Strengthening the state-wide network
The acquisition follows a period of growth for Seitz, which acquired Bishop Insurance Services in 2023 to expand its reach across the Flathead and Mission Valley areas. By integrating Seitz into its Northwest operations, MMA gains a more comprehensive foothold in a state where it already maintains a substantial infrastructure.
“Seitz Insurance is an agency we’ve admired for years,” notes Sarah Walsh, CEO of MMA’s Northwest region. “Many in the community have grown up with Seitz Insurance as a household name. With nine other MMA offices throughout central and western Montana, the Seitz Insurance team helps us round out more of our services on the eastern side of the state.”
The alignment between the two organisations will allow MMA to better serve clients across the entirety of Montana, bridging the gap between its existing western hubs and the eastern plains.
Continuity in specialised markets
For the clients of Seitz Insurance, the transition is designed to ensure continuity. The agency’s specialisation in the agricultural and energy sectors is particularly valuable to MMA, as these industries require nuanced risk management and specific policy structures that differ from standard commercial lines.
As part of the agreement, all Seitz employees will remain with the firm. This includes agency principals and co-owners David Seitz and Camila Skinner, who will continue to lead their teams from their current office locations. This stability is intended to preserve the “household name” status referenced, ensuring that long-term client relationships remain intact during the integration process.
Access to global resources
Joining a global leader like Marsh McLennan provides the Montana-based team with access to a broader range of risk, reinsurance and capital solutions. For a regional agency focused on high-stakes sectors like crop and energy, the ability to tap into MMA’s extensive resources provides a significant competitive advantage.
“We chose Marsh McLennan Agency because of their commitment to clients, colleagues and communities alike,” says David Seitz. “Joining MMA gives us confidence that Seitz Insurance can continue serving our clients with integrity and industry-leading solutions, while giving our colleagues room to grow and deepen the community relationships that have always defined us.”
David highlights that the decision to join MMA was driven by a desire to maintain the agency’s core values while securing the tools necessary to navigate an increasingly complex insurance landscape.
The move allows the local team to offer more sophisticated products without losing the personal touch that has defined the business for over six decades.
The acquisition is the latest in a series of strategic moves by MMA to consolidate its position as a dominant force in regional brokerage, focusing on agencies that offer both geographic advantages and specialised industry knowledge.
