Swiss Re Expands Gen AI Partnership with mea Platform
Swiss Re, one of the world's leading reinsurance groups, has significantly expanded its partnership with mea, a generative AI-powered global platform for insurance process automation. The collaboration, which began in July 2023, now extends to Swiss Re's P&C reinsurance operations, marking a substantial growth in the application of mea's technology across the reinsurer's global operations.
Swiss Re's decision to broaden its use of mea's generative AI solution comes after a rigorous testing period, highlighting the platform's effectiveness in addressing complex data processing challenges within the insurance industry. The expanded contract will see mea's technology applied to intricate data formats, including Schedules of Value (SOV) and Loss Runs, enabling efficient processing of complex Excel spreadsheets and PDFs.
mea's GenAI solution, Ora, utilises advanced natural language processing and machine learning techniques to extract unstructured data from submission-related documents and convert it into structured, analysable data. This capability significantly reduces the need for manual processes, decreasing the time and resources traditionally required to manage inbound submission flow.
Tarun Kohli, Managing Director & Head Group Delivery Services at Swiss Re, says: "We are pleased to announce this partnership with mea which comes off the back of successful pilots across our reinsurance and insurance operations. We went through a rigorous selection process to identify a platform that is both innovative and mature enough to complement our state-of-the-art tech stack. mea's capabilities have proven to be the right fit for us as Swiss Re is continuing its digital transformation journey"
Tech and the state of the industry
The partnership's expansion is particularly noteworthy given the complexity of data formats in the insurance industry. mea's ability to process SOVs and Loss Runs – documents that often contain thousands of rows of detailed property and claims information – demonstrates a significant leap in automation capabilities for insurers and reinsurers.
Marc Werder, Managing Director & Chief Innovation and Transformation Officer at Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, emphasised the strategic importance of the partnership: "With its GenAI-powered platform, mea's technology helps us further enhance our data capabilities and simply processes where needed. The expansion of this partnership is part of our commitment to continuously optimising our business operations and driving innovation across the organisation."
The collaboration between Swiss Re and mea reflects a broader trend in the insurance industry towards leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning to streamline operations and enhance data analysis capabilities. By automating the processing of complex documents, insurers can significantly reduce the risk of human error and accelerate underwriting and claims processes.
Market positioning and future prospects
mea's success in securing and expanding its partnership with an industry leader like Swiss Re positions the company as a frontrunner in the insurtech space. The platform's ability to handle complex data formats sets it apart in a market where many competitors struggle to offer comparable solutions.
Martin Henley, CEO at mea, commented on the expansion: "We are thrilled to deepen our partnership with Swiss Re. This selection and expansion demonstrate the value and efficiency our solution brings to both Reinsurance and Insurance operations. We're just scratching the surface of what's possible, and we look forward to continuing to innovate and deliver value for Swiss Re".
The partnership's growth trajectory since its inception in July 2023 indicates a rapid adoption rate and successful implementation of mea's technology within Swiss Re's operations. While specific metrics on efficiency gains or cost savings have not been disclosed, the expansion to cover P&C reinsurance operations suggests significant benefits realised from the initial implementation in Swiss Re's Corporate Solutions business.
