AI-native insurer Neptune Flood has integrated its Triton platform with ChatGPT to offer instant flood insurance quotes through conversational AI

Neptune Flood has announced the launch of a new digital flood insurance app within ChatGPT, marking a significant shift in how property owners interact with catastrophe risk.

The integration allows users to obtain real-time preliminary insurance quotes directly through the conversational interface, expanding the reach of Neptune’s digital-first underwriting.

By meeting consumers within new digital environments, the company aims to address the persistent flood insurance gap that leaves many communities across the US underinsured.

The app simplifies the process by allowing property owners to ask specific questions about coverage and receive an instant preliminary quote, which can then be finalised through Neptune's primary website.

Conversational AI: Where can it be used in insurance?

The move leverages Neptune’s existing infrastructure, which already supports direct-to-consumer quoting and embedded assistants for agency partners.

By moving into the ChatGPT ecosystem, the insurer is betting on the trend of ā€œmeeting the customer where they areā€ to strengthen financial resilience.

ā€œFlood insurance should be easy to understand and easy to buy,ā€ says Trevor Burgess, Chairman and CEO of Neptune Flood.

ā€œOur app in ChatGPT allows us to meet customers where they are and make protection more accessible for families and businesses nationwide.

"Neptune is an AI native company and we are excited to be pioneering technological advancements for the benefit of consumers.ā€

The application is designed to be available across all 50 states and the District of Columbia. As of the most recent year-end figures, the firm manages over 280,000 policies in force, providing both residential and commercial protection.

Technical integration and the MCP

To facilitate this integration, Neptune utilised its proprietary Triton underwriting system. The architecture was specifically designed to be modular and API-first, allowing it to function as a plug-and-play solution for external digital environments.

Dr. Tom Wexler, Neptune’s Chief Engineer, explains: “We architected our proprietary underwriting system, Triton, as a modular, API-first underwriting system specifically so it could integrate into new digital environments like ChatGPT.

“Using the Model Context Protocol (MCP), a lightweight API layer securely orchestrates data retrieval, risk modeling and rating in real time on top of our existing underwriting infrastructure. Because our underwriting stack is fully automated and cloud-native, we can extend instant quoting into conversational AI without changing our core workflow.”

The use of the MCP allows for secure data orchestration without compromising the speed of the risk modelling process. This ensures that the conversational experience remains fluid while maintaining the technical rigour required for accurate insurance rating.

Multi-channel distribution

The ChatGPT app serves as a complement to Neptune’s broader distribution strategy, which includes a nationwide network of independent agents and existing online platforms.

Customers can now use the AI interface to explore options in plain language before seamlessly transitioning to the company’s website to complete their purchase.

This multi-channel approach ensures that whether a customer prefers a traditional agent or a modern AI assistant, the underlying digital underwriting experience remains consistent. The Neptune Flood app is currently live and available for users within the ChatGPT store.
