Global insurer Allianz has achieved measurable ROI and operational efficiency through a large-scale workforce upskilling programme

The International Brilliance Awards recently honoured Allianz for its excellence in AI skill-building and digital development.

The recognition highlights the firm’s Global AI Run, an ambitious internal initiative designed to integrate AI across its expansive international footprint.

Rather than treating AI as a high-level concept, the project focuses on embedding practical tools into daily workflows to heighten productivity and business agility. To date, it has reached 144,000 members of the Allianz team across 70 countries, utilising a mix of expert-led masterclasses and role-specific education.

Bettina Dietsche, Group Chief People and Culture Officer of Allianz, comments:  “This recognition reflects what the Global AI Run stands for at Allianz: making AI real. Not theoretical. Not exclusive. But practical, inclusive and impact driven.

“The programme empowers colleagues to use AI with confidence, accelerates the adoption of our AI tools and enables teams to develop concrete solutions that improve their day-to-day work.

“Today, the Global AI Run, a perfect symbiosis of Allianz and Allianz Technology, is a cornerstone of how we develop digital and AI capabilities across Allianz.”

Operational excellence and agentic AI

Strategy at the group level remains focused on high-impact deployment.

Manuela Diviach, Head of Group Operations, Procurement and Organisation at Allianz, emphasises that the company follows a rigorous framework for prioritising innovation, with "value creation" serving as the primary metric for all AI investments.

A key pillar of this tech stack is AllianzGPT, a secure internal ecosystem that provides employees with advanced document synthesis and actionable data insights. On the claims side, the firm has introduced Project Nemo, an agentic AI framework that manages low-complexity claims. The results have been significant: Allianz has recorded an 80% decrease in the time required to process and settle these files.

Manuela attributes these gains to a culture of internal buy-in, fostered by a rollout that prioritises clarity and employee support over rapid, unvetted disruption: "We're taking a careful, measured approach to ensure the business and our people fully understand how these tools can support and empower them.

“This is why we also offer a wide range of learning opportunities around AI for our people, like the AI Run, the Data Excellence programme or our Fit4IT initiative.”

Scaling digital literacy for the future

The firm's commitment to a future-ready workforce extends beyond general literacy. Allianz has developed specialised tracks for its executive layer, challenging senior leaders to integrate AI directly into their long-term business models.

For technical specialists, the company has established a formal partnership with Sorbonne University. This nine-month industrial learning programme ensures that Data Analysts and AI Engineers at Allianz are operating at the cutting edge of the field.

Isabelle Kokoschka, Global Head of Learning and Skill Management at Allianz, describes the educational framework as a tiered system designed for maximum accessibility.

She adds: “Our AI training programmes range from foundational AI literacy and generative AI ethics to topics like advanced prompting and machine learning.

“Employees can upskill at their own pace based on their level of interest and experience. There is a structured learning matrix – starting with AI fundamentals, progressing through machine learning and culminating in leadership-level AI strategy and business integration.”
