Allianz and Anthropic launch a global partnership to scale responsible AI and Claude models, enhancing digital strategy and automation for insurance claims

Insurance giant Allianz and AI safety leader Anthropic announce a global partnership to accelerate the adoption of responsible AI across the insurance group’s international operations.

The collaboration centres on three transformative projects designed to empower employees and accelerate workflows while setting new benchmarks for accuracy in a highly regulated industry.

By integrating Anthropic’s Claude models into its digital infrastructure, Allianz aims to address critical challenges in transparency and operational efficiency.

Global insurance giant Allianz pairs with Anthropic for the automation of insurance tasks using responsible AI.

Driving operational efficiency through Claude

This strategic move comes as Allianz UK recently launched its genAI underwriting tool BRIAN

The tool streamlines how underwriters access critical guidance documentation, demonstrating a forward-thinking approach to digital strategy

Anthropic’s Claude models will become part of an internal platform that is free for use by all Allianz employees globally.

The integration includes Claude Code which is already being used by thousands of Allianz developers to redefine software development and improve code quality.

The companies are also utilising Model Context Protocols to help staff securely connect and integrate various data sources across different services.

Oliver Bäte, CEO of Allianz SE says: “With this partnership, Allianz is taking a decisive step to address critical AI challenges in insurance.

“Anthropic’s focus on safety and transparency complements our strong dedication to customer excellence and stakeholder trust.

“Together, we are building solutions that prioritise what matters most to our customers while setting new standards for innovation and resilience.”

Automation and the human-in-the-loop principle

A second pillar of the collaboration involves developing custom agentic AI capable of orchestrating multi-step workflows to automate labour-intensive processes.

These agents will manage tasks from intake documentation to claims processing in motor and health insurance sectors.

The move aims to deliver faster first payments and reduce manual steps to improve the claimant experience.

Dario Amodei, CEO and Co-founder of Anthropic notes: “Insurance is an industry where the stakes of using AI are particularly high: the decisions can affect millions of people.

“Allianz and Anthropic both take that very seriously, and we look forward to working together to make insurance better for those who depend on it.”

Despite the automation, Allianz intends to maintain its human-in-the-loop principle to ensure complex or sensitive cases are handled with empathy.

This emphasis on the human element mirrors broader trends where insurers and insurtechs are moving from pilots to enterprise-scale use to reshape competitiveness.

The third area of the partnership focuses on transparency and compliance through AI systems that log every decision and rationale.

This ensures that all actions taken by the AI are fully traceable and compliant with specific insurance regulations.

Advancing transparency and employee upskilling

Allianz has already demonstrated the benefits of AI through its roadside assistance voice assistant and automated pet insurance processing.

In Australia, the company launched a solution to automate food spoilage claims which has significantly reduced turnaround times.

To ensure the long term success of these initiatives the group is investing in upskilling its global workforce through learning programmes.

By focusing on responsible scaling and constitutional AI principles, the partnership seeks to build resilient systems that support human decision-making.

Ultimately the collaboration positions Allianz to leverage AI while maintaining the trust of its millions of policyholders worldwide.
