Carbon Management Technology: A Crucial Tool for Climate Act

The United Nations' Framework on Climate Change stands as one of the world's foremost authorities on global sustainability issues.
UNFCC guidance is widely respected and followed, with technology being one of the organisation's central principles.
"We cannot address climate change without technology," the UNFCC states plainly.
Tackling the complex web of the climate crisis represents perhaps humanity's greatest ever challenge, and experts maintain that without technological solutions, this monumental task would be virtually impossible.
Carbon management software has emerged as a vital technology in the worldwide pursuit of net zero emissions. These sophisticated programmes enable both companies and governments to accurately measure their carbon footprints and implement meaningful emissions reduction strategies.
Brightest and Allianz: A Strategic Partnership
Brightest, a US-based firm providing sustainability and ESG data solutions, recently announced a significant partnership with insurance giant Allianz, making the latter one of its flagship clients.
This collaboration could substantially influence the future of corporate sustainability. As Tina Sejersgård Fanø, EVP for Agriculture & Industrial Biosolutions at Novozymes, notes, "data, technology and finances form a triangle—they need to go hand in hand to create that sustainability revolution".
The Brightest-Allianz partnership comes at a critical moment, with global greenhouse gas emissions having risen by 1.9% between 2022 and 2023.
Their joint initiative aims to equip companies with comprehensive tools for measuring, managing and reducing carbon footprints whilst ensuring compliance with evolving international sustainability regulations.
Dr Funke Adeosun, Global Sustainability Solutions Practice Head at Allianz Commercial, explains: "Our goal is to develop customer-centric solutions that address the real-world sustainability challenges that businesses and organisations face every day. We take a holistic, strategic and adaptive approach to risk."
She adds, "We recognise that one size does not fit all in 'energy transition' but that successful transition and resilience requires leveraging the right tools and technologies in the most effective ways for each client.
"Our collaboration with Brightest is about harnessing cutting-edge technology which can help the businesses we serve adopt quantitative, metrics-focused and actionable approaches to their decarbonisation goals."
This initiative strategically combines Allianz's expertise in risk management with Brightest's technological capabilities.
Practical Benefits for Businesses
Under this arrangement, Allianz Commercial clients will gain access to Brightest's sustainability platform at reduced costs, along with additional special benefits.
The technology enables businesses to track and report greenhouse gas emissions in alignment with major frameworks including the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, International Sustainability Standards Board and the European Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive.
This comprehensive approach features automated data collection and analysis tools designed to enhance accuracy and efficiency in environmental reporting.
Chris Bolman, CEO at Brightest, states: "By combining Allianz Commercial's expertise in insurance and risk management with Brightest's advanced technology, we're empowering businesses to take a more data-driven, transparent and impactful approach to sustainability."
The platform will also help companies identify reduction opportunities and establish achievable decarbonisation targets.
"Together, we can help companies not only meet regulatory requirements and effectively reduce and manage their risk, but also drive meaningful environmental progress at a crucial time in history," Bolman adds.
