Lloyd's appoints Alexandra Cliff as Chief Financial Officer

Lloyd's of London has announced Alexandra Cliff as its new Chief Financial Officer, effective May 1, 2025. Cliff, who has served as Deputy CFO since November 2022, brings over two decades of insurance industry expertise to the role.

The appointment marks a strategic succession following Burkhard Keese's departure to pursue investment opportunities in the German insurance market. Keese will maintain ties with Lloyd's as a strategic advisor, particularly focusing on the development of the London Bridge 2 risk transfer vehicle.

Cliff's extensive background includes senior finance positions at prominent firms including Direct Line Group, StarStone, and AJ Gallagher. A Chartered Accountant by training, she spent eight years at PwC, working across both London and US offices, before building her insurance industry career.

During her tenure as Deputy CFO, Cliff has been instrumental in strengthening Lloyd's financial position, contributing to recent ratings upgrades and modernizing market reporting systems. Her appointment comes at a crucial time for Lloyd's, as the insurance marketplace continues to enhance its global investment proposition and digital transformation initiatives.

John Neal, Lloyd's CEO, praised Cliff's contributions to the organization's enhanced financial strength and expressed confidence in her ability to advance Lloyd's strategic objectives. Her predecessor, Keese, leaves a strong legacy, having overseen Lloyd's achievement of its highest-ever financial strength ratings from S&P Global and AM Best during his tenure since 2019.

The transition aligns with Lloyd's ongoing efforts to modernize its operations and strengthen its position as the world's leading insurance and reinsurance marketplace.
